چکیده
In this issue of Neuron, Chen et al. (2017) examine premotor activity representing motor planning, Allen et al. (2017) observe the global representation of goal-directed movement on the cortical network, and Makino et al. (2017) track changes in such dynamics throughout learning.

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore brain function: cortical representations of language critical areas
Pre-operative determination of the dominant hemisphere for speech and speech associated sensory and motor regions has been of great interest for the neurological surgeons. This dilemma has been of at most importance, but difficult to achieve, requiring either invasive (Wada test) or non-invasive methods (Brain Mapping). In the present study we have employed functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging...

Objective: To study cortical potentials associated with suppression of intended motoric actions. Methods: Electro-encephalographic activity was recorded in a Go/NoGo reaction time paradigm. Subjects viewed computer-generated pacing stimuli, which provided information concerning the time at which an imperative Go/NoGo signal occurred. A motoric response was required following Go stimuli while mo...
متن کاملPrior information in motor and premotor cortex: activity during the delay period and effect on pre-movement activity.
In instructed-delay (ID) tasks, instructional cues provide prior information about the nature of a movement to execute after a delay. Neuronal responses in dorsal premotor cortex (PMd) during the instructed-delay period (IDP) between the CUE and subsequent GO signals are presumed to reflect early planning stages initiated by the prior information. In contrast, in multiple-choice reaction-time (...
متن کاملDecoding a wide range of hand configurations from macaque motor, premotor, and parietal cortices.
Despite recent advances in decoding cortical activity for motor control, the development of hand prosthetics remains a major challenge. To reduce the complexity of such applications, higher cortical areas that also represent motor plans rather than just the individual movements might be advantageous. We investigated the decoding of many grip types using spiking activity from the anterior intrap...
